Reaching into the African broadcast market

A comparison between AV Specialist’s latest BPA audited circulation statement and Screen Africa’s latest ABC audited circulation statement has identified significant differences in the circulation of the two magazines within Africa.

The first major difference lies in the geographic spread of the magazines. AV Specialist has positioned itself as a regional publication that covers the broadcast and professional AV industry across Africa and the Middle East. 32.4% of AV Specialist’s qualified circulation reaches into Africa, with South Africa representing the largest share of this coverage (69.7%). Nigeria, Egypt and the SADC region (Southern African Development Community) all maintain a significant market share within a circulation that covers 30 different countries across the continent.

As a direct comparison, 89.6% of Screen Africa’s circulation is distributed within South Africa, with an additional 9.5% distributed throughout the SADC region and less than 1% circulated outside the SADC region.

The second major difference lies in the relationship between the magazine and its’ readers base. 70.3% of Screen Africa copies are distributed in bulk to various distribution outlets within their coverage area. These are distributed free of charge and the final recipient cannot be identified. 22.3% of copies are circulated to individuals who have not requested a subscription and only 7.4% of copies are circulated to subscribers who have either paid or requested a subscription.
As a direct comparison, only 12.3% of AV Specialist copies are distributed in bulk to non-qualified readers while 83.4% of copies are delivered to individuals who have personally requested their subscription.

“The audited circulation reports speak for themselves,” says AV Specialist circulation manager Anne Ebrahim. “Whether you’re using print or online media, if you want to reach identified buyers in the broadcast and ProAV industry across Africa, then AV Specialist offers a clear advantage over any alternative.”

Anne’s statements are endorsed by publisher Kevan Jones who’s quick to point out that circulation figures on their own shouldn’t be the only criteria used to evaluate the value of any particular magazine. “Editorial content in AV Specialist reflects the broad geographic spread of our circulation so we’re providing a local perspective to readers throughout the continent,” he says. “Our feature articles are written by some of the best known journalists in the industry and our unique combination of great editorial content tied to highly targeted circulation makes AV Specialist the #1 choice for suppliers looking to market their products and services across Africa and the Middle East.”
